How To Get The Most Out Of Your Business Card

By: Kaitlyn Miller

When it comes to business card printing, you need to take time to carefully think about what you want on your card. Do you want to include your logo or should you use another graphic element? Are you going to use the back side of the card for more info or leave it blank?

Your business card is like your silent salesperson. It can give people a good impression of you and your company or it can give a bad impression. Your card represents you long after you leave a person. An effective card provides good customer service by making it easy for prospects to get in touch with you at your direct line or by using your direct email address. It makes you seem more personal to customers and customers trust people who they feel they know on a personal level.

Your business card can also be used as a word-of-mouth marketing pusher: by handing out multiple cards to one person, you’re giving that person the means to pass on your card to friends and family.

To create a business card that gives off a good impression, you need to:

First, decide on the feeling you want your card to convey. You might prefer a straightforward approach with just a logo and your contact info. This gives off a professional, no-nonsense feel. People in a creative industry on the other hand, can’t afford to look no-nonsense. They need a more creative business card that shows more personality.

Next, make sure you don’t forget any contact details. You need to include all the info prospects need to contact you, without resorting to teeny, tiny print that’s hard to read. At the least, you need to include your business name, your name, title, physical address, email address and phone number. You can also include your business Web site address, fax number, cell phone number and slogan if you have the room.

Design your card online or offline. You can use software like Microsoft Publisher to design your card or you can use online templates that you can customize. There is also software available just to design business cards, like Business Card Designer Pro that has a ton of templates you can use or you can design a card from scratch.

Use the back of your business card. You can use the back to help yourself in the form of slogan placement or Web site address placement, or you can use the back to help the prospect in the form of local emergency numbers or by including a six-month mini-calendar. (One-year calendars won’t fit on such a small space.)

Consider using a digital business card. Digital cards on CDs are gaining in popularity as people are going green to save trees and to use the latest high-tech equipment.
